One of the successful, but less known gay events in Amsterdam is the Gay movie night at Pathe de Munt – a large cinema just off Rembrandtplein square, and very close to the gay bars.
The Gay Movie night is every month, on the first Wednesday of the month. (next gay film: Wednesday January 3, 2018)!
The cinema chooses a film with a gay theme.
Time for GayLinc to have a look!
On December 6, we went to see the movie Pushing Dead. The movie is about a HIV-positive gay writer, who gets into financial trouble because of a gift by his mother (see this page for more details).
This movie showed that you always should check the website of Pathe Gay Night, for two things:
1 – the starting time is usually 8.30pm, but this time the start was at 7.30pm. Starting times vary!
(how to find out? On the Pathe gay night page, click on the button ‘Amsterdam’ for more information).
2 – The movies are usually subtitled in Dutch, but not always – the movie we watched was English spoken without subtitles.
The gay movie night is always well attended. You can expect between 100 to 300 spectators.
There are three extras at the gay night:
1 – you get a free drink (pink bubbles or orange juice)
2 – you can win a dvd
3 – after the movie, you can get two drinks for the price of one, at 3 different bars:
– Queer Bar
Locations of these bars:
We chose the Taboo Bar for our free drink, and were surprised how busy this was on a Wedenesday evening – the place was absolutely packed. This was probably also due to the drag queen show that was going on and the Happy Hour. So, everyone got two drinks for the price of one anyway, and our Gay Night tickets were quite useless! Well, who cares, it’s still a fun place to be, very good atmosphere, highly recommended.
The next movie is is shown on Wednesday January 3, 2018.
You can order tickets through the website, but you can also simply purchase them in Pathe de Munt.
