Amsterdam will not host the Gay Games of 2018, so it became clear as the Federation of Gay Games has announced the shortlist of cities from which it will choose the winner on 7th of October. The Amsterdam organizing comity is of course disappointed, but wished the three remaining cities (London, Paris and Limerick) on the short list all the best. Local council members have raised already questions to the city government. They want to know what the reasons for this disappointing result are.
Emy Ritt, co-president of the Federation of Gay Games, thanked Amsterdam for the bid: “I liked the Amsterdam bid, because Amsterdam was the city were I discovered the Gay Games in 1998.
Gay Games 1998 in Amsterdam were a legendary event for LGBT sporters and their supporters. Also the city of Amsterdam has fond memories of this event: pubs, clubs and restaurants had a boon during this summer, crime rates were down and love was all around the city. All the more reason for the city to start a lobby, to get the games back again in 2018.
