Arabic gay bar Habibi Ana to close down under new Amsterdam rules

Habibi Ana

Habibi Ana is the first casualty of the stricter rules of the city of Amsterdam regarding opening hours. This is reported by the Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool.

Habibi Ana had a licence to stay open until 3am. The rules in Amsterdam stipulate that if the bar is in violation of the licence for the third time, the bar is shut down: ‘three strikes, you’re out’ .

The last time the police witnessed a violation of the licence was December 29. The Parool reports that the owner was apparently drunk.

The closure of Habibi Ana takes effect on March 2.

Habibi Ana is the only gay bar in Amsterdam that targets a Mediterranean/Arabic gay audience. It is very uncertain whether the bar will open again, as the closure is for an indefinite period.
