Amsterdam Pride is an event that tries to be a celebration of all people living within the LGBTQI+ community. And this year the line af activities for the Transgender community is extra strong. These activities are even grouped under the banner of TransPride. Here is our selection of the TransPride activities within the Amsterdam Pride 2017.
The TransPride 2017 will be held on July 30th until August 4th in The Generator, Mauritskade 57. This next to the Oosterpark area. The organizers warn you not to walk through the park at night.
- Sunday 30th July, 5PM – 11.30PM
The opening to the TransPride will include a brass band, speakers, music, singers, the singing of he TransPride anthem and the raising of the transgender flag. Of course the two ambassadors for the TransPride will be attending this event.
Trans* InClusion/ExClusion within the LGBQ community
- Monday 31st July, 8PM – 11.30PM
This discussion evening focusses on the position of Trans people in the LGBQ community. A variety of speakers will talk with each other and the audience about misunderstandings, ignorance, discrimination and transphobia in the LGBQ community. So an evening for all members of the LGBTQI+ community to talk and listen.
TransTalents, TransStory, TransPoetry
- Tuesday 1st August, 8PM – 11.30PM
Within the Trans community people use several art forms to express their experiences, observations and feelings. On this evening several performance artists will take the stage to show their art. The night will be filled with TransTalents, TransStory and TransPoetry. Once all participants have left the stage, the DJ’s and other acts will bring the night to a festive close
TransPride Walk and Pride East
- Wednesday 2nd August, 2PM – 8PM
The TransPride is not only an indoors event. The TransPride Walk is part of the Pride East and will a large flag, music and acts the TransPride participants will walk from the Generator to the opening of Pride East at the Java plein. By participating in this walk, TransPride wants to build a connection with the neighborhood and Pride East.
Transmen in the World
- Thursday 3rd August, 8PM – 11.30PM
The theme of the night is “Transmen in the World”. Transmen from various countries will be discussing the position of their trans brothers in society in their respective countries.
- Friday 4th/Saturday 5th August, 8PM – 3AM
The last day of TransPride is a night filled with good music, dancing and hanging with newly made friends. The party is meant to be a meeting point, a party where everyone is welcome to be themselves.
After all the partying
After the main program of the TransPride is finished, there are two special events elsewhere in Amsterdam. Both events are held on Sunday afternoon 6th of August.
For the first time ever there will be a TransPride Church service. During the service the different voices of transgender people of faith will be expressed. The service is organized by the workgroup Transgender and Faith. It starts at 1.30PM at the Keizersgrachtkerk, Keizersgracht 566.
The documentary Suited will be shown in the Jewish Historical Museum. It is a film about the clothing company Bindle & Keep in Brooklyn. This tailor makes bespoke suites for many transgender and gender fluid clients. In the film several of these clients are followed and tell there unique story. The documentary will be shown at 2.30PM at the Jewish Historical Museum, Nieuwe Amstelsstraat 1. Entrance is free if you buy a ticket for the Jewish Historical Quarter (€15).
