Spring is about to start in the northern hemisphere and that means the season sports tournaments starts. Amsterdam hosts several LGBTQI+ sports tournament every year. You find here an overview of the sports tournaments in 2019. This give you a change to enter these competitions on time and organize your trip. We update this article every time we find new tournaments.
Pink Run kicking of the season
The first LGBTQI+ sports event in 2019 is the Pink Run on Sunday the 28th of April. From 2PM you can join runs spanning distances of 5, 10 or 15 kilometers. The runs start from the sportshall Zeeburg (Insulindeweg 1001, 1095 DH Amsterdam) in the eastern part of Amsterdam. The event is organized by Dutch Gay and Lesbian Athletics.
For joining these runs you pay €7,50 (5km), €8,50 (10km) or €9,50 (15km). You can enter the runs online (in Dutch). In that case you receive €2,- reduction if you subscribe before April the 24th. However, you can also enter the runs on the day itself for the full price.
Open Dutch Gay Swimming Championship
On May the 25th the Open Dutch Gay Swimming Championship takes place in the Sloterparkpool in Amsterdam. In this professional, olympic style school beginner, routinier, debutant or competition crazy LGBTQI+ swimmers will compete. Besides individual events and the relays, there will also be a competition between the participating swimming clubs. After the competition you will be offered a buffet around the pool to finish off the day.

The PinksterToernooi (June 7th till June 10th) is one of the biggest international tennis tournaments for LGBTQI+ poel. The name is a play derived from the Dutch word for Pentecost: Pinksteren. Since 1996 the Amsterdam tennisclub Smashing Pink organizes this tournament. You can expect over 300 participants from more than 20 different countries. The tournament is part of the international tournament calendar of the GLTA (Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance).
The tournament spans several days. And apart from the games themselves, you can also join several social events and parties. The organizers can also help you find a place to stay during the tournament. You can find more information and enter the competition on this website.
The Amsterdam Gay Pride Squash Tournament
During the Amsterdam Gay Pride the Amsterdam Rainbow Squash organize the Gay Pride Squash Tournament. At this international tournament squash players from many countries will compete for a medal. Players of all levels are welcome. The tournament will be held on Friday 2nd August 2019. Go to this website to get more information and to register.
The day before the Canal Parade, on Friday August 2nd, you can join the Pride Run at 7.30PM. You can join runs for 5km, 10km or even half a marathon.
