Museums

Apart from the main museums, which you'll find in all the other guides, we recommend the following museums

Hortus Botanicus

Plantage Middenlaan, tram 9 or 14

A great place for some peace in a busy city. Enjoy the greenhouses, a cup of coffee in the 'Oranjerie' and a chat with the gardiners. Don't miss the butterflies. In the summer open till 5 pm, in the other seasons till 4 pm.

Theatre Museum

Herengracht 166, tram 13, 14, 17 or 20

The exhibitions may prove to be difficult without knowledge of the Dutch language, but you'll enjoy the beautifull buildings, the furniture and the garden.

Gay Monument

Westermarkt, tram 13, 14, 17 or 20

Not a museum, but the only place in the city where you'll find a tribute to gay love all year round. You can't leave Amsterdam without going there. The nearby bridge is named after one of the founders of the Gay and Lesbian movement in Holland.

Willet Holthuysen

Herengracht 605, tram 4

If you want to know what a 'Grachtenhuis' looks like. This is a 'must see'! One hour will be enough. Enjoy the beauty and the view.

Gallery Binnen

Keizersgracht 88

A contemporary collection of modern furniture, including Memphis. Also expositions of unique objects. Recently a tribute to the well known Dutch designer Benno Premsela. Pleasant atmosphere, time for a chat.
