Holiday season parties and events Celebrating Christmas and NYE in Amsterdam

The Holiday season of Christmas en New Year’s Eve (NYE) are often a bit funny for LGBTQI people. Many of us don’t have close family connections to celebrate this days with parents or siblings. Others just want to break free from the traditional patterns of visiting family and eating a lot. In any case for almost all of us these are a couple of free days, where we can do what we want and party all  night long. A lot of gay bars in Amsterdam organize special festivities these holiday days. We like to draw special attention to for the events of Lellebel and the bars around the Amstel and Halvemaansteeg.

Holiday season parties and events: our picks

Merry Queer Mass

  • Sexyland, Ms van Riemsdijkweg 39

Sexyland is a quirky party location in Amsterdam Noord, the hippest neighborhood right now. Often they organize queer and/or gay parties and this one is certainly one of them.

They are in the right spirit of rebellion against tradtions or as they say: “Christmas brings along loads of social pressure, uncomfortable encounters and traditional imagery, with little to no room for those who don’t fit into obvious boxes. So let’s go to Sexyland to queer the most traditional time of the year by celebrating nonconformity, awkwardness and queerness all together!”

You can expect a variety of performances, video screenings, speeches, art installations, poetry, and short stories. All of this is of course the back drop of some great music.

Line-up: Driewieler Collectief, Linda Duits, Jan Hoek, Aurélien Lepetit, Mehrshad Tajfar, Loes Faber, De Gladiool, Dagny Polly F, Richy Florentina, Mylou Oord, LIONSTORM, DIEMUNDSTÜTEMEIER, Philipp Gufler, Beyoncé van Vreden, FLAM at basis for Live Art, The Mountain, LUPE, DJ AAAH!, and DJ Octo, Loeloe & Ronnie.
