The new gay sauna in Amsterdam, Sauna Nieuwezijds, had a busy testrun, from Friday December 6 to Monday morning December 9.
From Friday noon until Monday morning, permanently, the public could enter the sauna for only € 2,-. The result was long lines, and thousands of visitors.
On its Facebook page, the management let us know that they will now close for a couple of days to evaluate the results.
Many men in the scene applaud the new arrival, and shower the sauna with compliments.
But the reviews are not all positive – which is to be expected of course with a complicated start-up like this. There were some complaints about the cleaning, the friendliness of staff, their not speaking Dutch, having to pay for extra towels, the quality and price of the food, the water temperature in the jacuzzi, the lack of steam in the steam sauna. A more frequent complaint seems to be the lack of light in the cruising areas.
Undoubtedly, the management will review the remarks, and act upon them where necessary.
The date of the permanent opening will be announced on their Facebook page (here).
