The online news-site Dichtbij reports that one of the most popular gay bars in Amsterdam, De Engel, has to close down. The reason is apparently failure to pay the rent. See the news article (in Dutch).
After a second chance, given by the judge in May this year, the bar owner again failed to pay.
The bar has to be vacated, on court order, by Friday November 22, according to Dichtbij.
The Engel’s website and its Facebook page don’t mention a closure at the time of writing of this article.
The owner of Cafe de Engel, Mr André Leinenga, did not confirm or deny the closure to us, and has said that he will keep everyone posted through the Engel’s Facebook page (Facebook page ).
The Amsterdam newspaper het Parool also writes about the issue (here). It quotes the owner of the property (NV Zeedijk) as saying that the cafe has to be vacated by Friday, or else an unvoluntary eviction will take place on Monday.
