Burlesque, a new addition to the gay scene in the Reguliersdwarsstraat, has opened as of December 1st. Burlesque is a new restaurant that combines food and entertainment. The owners have worked long and hard on building up the restaurant. The opening was planned for mid November, but some last minute building work forced them to postpone this premiere. But luckily the work progressed quickly and Burlesque opened just before the holiday season.
Burlesque the concept
The concept of Burlesque is to recreate the atmosphere and glamour of the high society in the 1930’s and 1940’s. That means fine dining, cocktails and a cabaret or musical style entertainment in one evening setting on Friday and Saturday. That means that reservations are required and that you have to arrive in time for your seats, that is between 6 and 6.30PM. On other nights seating times are a bit more relaxed.
The menu consists brasserie type dishes with influences of Asian and American dishes. Its also heavily centered on the shared dining experience. In other words small, not to expensive dishes to combine and share with your companions.
Interesting enough for a restaurant it has a set of strict house rules. To quote one of them “We dress to impress and would love it if you do too. No sports sneakers, sports clothing or caps allowed”.
Information and reservations
The website of Burlesque is also up and running. Here you can find news about special menus and their wine and drinks card. This is also the place of course to make a reservation if you want to try it out. We sure can’t wait to get a taste of Burlesque.
