There’s this thing with gay bars with French names – it sounds old-fashioned, of 1960’s, of closet queens, of secret door bells to ring before getting in…..
Around Halvemaanssteeg the gay bars seems to have adopted this French naming policy: there’s the Rouge, the Chez René, the Montmartre, and the Entre Nous.
We found the Entre Nous to be quite different from what we had more or less expected. Instead of older men, singing popular Dutch songs, we found a bar with younger men in their 20’s , 30’s. The youngest person was perhaps the bar dude.
You REALLY don’t need to dress up with fancy clothes here. A woollen pullover is good enough. And hair-do? Unimportant.
Muscle queens may feel out-of-place too – here you can get away with (the beginning of) a little belly – the Entre Nous seems to attract a more educated, intellectual kind of crowd.
It was very busy when we were there on Friday night, and the atmosphere pleasant.
