Finally, after 8 years of renovation, restoration and changes the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam was re-openened. The museum was extended with a larger than life bath tub and two additional floors for contemporary art. This design is not without critics, as this New York Times review shows.
In the 19th century building you will find the renowned collection of paintings of the Stedelijk Museum: Appel, De Kooning, Breitner, Malevich and many others. You would expect extended opening hours to make sure they have some return on the investment, but alas, no. The museum is closed on Monday and open from 10 am until 5 pm, Thursday until 10 pm.
