The Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival, or Roze Filmdagen, has a special guest this year: Félix Maritaud. You may know this young French actor from the international hit movie 120BPM (2017). The festival will show three movies in which he has a leading role. After the showing of these movies Maritaud will talk about the roles he plays in these movies and answer questions form the public.
The meteoric rise of Maritaud
Félix Maritaud is a young actor who shot to fame recently in a range of movies with a strong gay theme. He was born in 1992 in France and as a teenager left home to travel around Europe. He worked at several odd jobs and studied a short time at an art academy. While working as a barman he auditioned for the movie 120BPM. This successful film about the Act Up movement in Paris launched his meteoric acting career. In 2018 he received the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award in Cannes.
The three Maritaud movie at the festival
The festival shows three movies with Maritaud in a (leading) role. The best known of the three is probably Sauvage (2018). In this movie Maritaud plays the 22 year old Leo, who earns a living as a prostitute. While men come and go, Leo is really looking for love. While sex plays a natural part in Leo’s life, the film centers on his inner struggle.
Jonas (2018) is the second movie. In this movie Maritaud plays a character looking for balance in his life. The memory of love affair, which ended dramatically in 1995, haunts Jonas. Now, as a 30 year old something with a steady job and a boyfriend, he struggles with life. Jonas regularly gets involved in fights and has affairs outside of his relationship.
And finally the third movie is called Knife + Heart (2018) in English. Although the French title sounds more dramatic: ‘Un couteau dans le coeur’. The movie plays in Paris in the 1970’s. The main character is Anne (Vanessa Paradis) who produces gay porn movies. She is surrounded by loyal, but unstable young men. Meanwhile she has a drinking problem that has ended her relationship with her girlfriend Lois . At that moment a serial killer enters the scene.
The Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival
From March the 14th till March the 24th you can watch these and many other movies at the 22nd edition the Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival. Cinema Het Ketelhuis in the western part of Amsterdam hosts the festival. On February the 22nd the full program will be published.
