Malvesijn
Prinsengracht 598 From 10.00 hours
Le Monde
Rembrandtplein 6 From 8.00 hours
Gay owned restaurant on the small side of the Rembrandtplein. Good for coffee with cakes, lunch (salads, omelettes, quiches) and simple dinners (\'beef, french fries and salad\'-type). Not expensive, but quick.
Pasta Papa
Leidsekruisstraat 12-14 From 18.00 hours
Restaurant close to the Leidseplein and part of the gay Hotel Orfeo. As the name suggests a restaurant specialising in Italian cuisine: pasta, pizza, but also lesser known Italian specialties. The winelist is surprisingly good and the staff is very helpfull. The decor borrows from every decade of the past 40 years and with the guests from the hotel joining dinner it gets a homely atmosphere.
Pygmalion
Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 5 A
Mind the pronunciation: its pygma-lion. One of the few South African restaurants in Amsterdam and certainly the only gay/lesbian one. Its located between the Herengracht and the Spiegelstraat area where you'll find lots of antiques and paintings. So just suppose you're hungry after all your shopping and you long for a nice meal? Would Pygma lion serve you a decent lunch? Yes. They would. As long as you're not to interested in decoration (although some find the toilet quite artistic) or haut cuisine. We enjoyed our crocodile!
Rakang
Elandsgracht 29 Daily from 18.00 h
A restaurant in the best Thai tradition: excellent food and friendly waiters. The interior is everything but traditional. The designer (found to be helping in the restaurant) put a personal touch to every aspect of the restaurant and gave it a post modern romantic feel.
Restaurant Singel
Singel 101 020 - 625 25 81
Formerly Sing Singel, this restaurant has made a new start recently. New owners and new management have renamed the restaurant and put the focus of it's menu on mediterranean cuisine. Not a specific branch of that cuisine, but food from every corner of the Mediterranean Sea. To quote their mail: they are "still very gay (friendly)". We will check this place out shortly.
't Sluisje
Torensteeg 1 From 16.00 hours, Mo & We closed
One of the mainstays in the local gay-cuisine. Small and hidden in a small street, the plates are loaded with decent food for a reasonable price. The atmosphere is cosy, thanks to the traditional interior. There are regular drag queen activities for your dinner time entertainment. The specials are the bachelor parties for gay or lesbian couples who are about to get married. With a bit of luck there will be still a place free for you at the table.
Tom Yam
Staalstraat 22
