Bars for women
Saarein
Elandstraat 119 Tuesday through Thursday from 17.00 - 01.00 hours, weekends till 02.00 hours
Closed on Mondays An almost historic place, pleasant to visit. This pub was originally the first and for long only feminist women-only pub in Amsterdam. Women emancipated and nowadays everybody is welcome as long as you are gay-, lesbian- and woman friendly. It is a good place to rest, drink and/or eat with cheerfull attentive waitresses, lots of gay brochures and magazines, good opportunities to find somebody to talk to, and an inviting pool-table even for beginners. Prices above moderate.
Cafe SAPPHO - closed (unfortunately)
Vijzelstraat 103 from 15.00 hours
The place to be to meet friends and other women. Very lively atmosphere, friendly bartenders ( women and men) and reasonable prices. Mixed public, you can even bring your mother in. Nevertheless young dynamic women are in the majority, especially on their Ladies Nights every Friday from 20.00 h. on. Due to their popularity it is crowded on Fridays, little room to dance on the music of the DJ ! Pretty not-pretentious interior with room enough to sit on the less crowded moments and enjoy their cultural activities like painting exhibits, live music evenings (Thursday) and songwriters meetings (Tuesday). We really like this bar (especially the dating board in the back).
Vivelavie
Amstelstraat 7 from 15.00 hours
The mostly female audience is self-assured, modern dressed and of all ages: hip youngsters, steady adult couples and lazing singles. It's a place for entertaining chats, everyday small talks and just enjoying each others company. No use trying to show off with heavy psychological or political debates. Hottest times on Friday and Saturday evenings.
