Club Cockring closed

Club Cockring in the Warmoesstraat has been closed on July 7th. Two weeks ago during a police raid hard drugs were found and it was established by the police that at least the doormen knew that there were drug dealers in the Cockring. For the maire of Amsterdam this was reason to board up the popular club.

If it will open and when at this moment is not known. But with this closure it is getting very quiet in the gay party scene. Maybe some enterprising persons should open up one or more gay clubs?

Support Malawi couple?

Love in a Hot Climate, or why the two gay men who simply intended to get married in Malawi have received so much international support. Great to see the solidarity! End of story? Do they live happily ever after? No, not really. Today's papers mention the end of the relation, because "I'm no longer in love with him. I'm in love with a woman." (said Mr. Monzeja). A free choice or one made under pressure from family? The international support got them out of prison, but it hasn't changed the situation for gays and lesbians in Malawi. 

The domino effect: exit April?

Earlier we reported about the closure of Club Exit. In an ongoing dispute with brewers and other supply companies, the owner of many of the popular gay venues in the Reguliersdwarstraat is losing one after another his clubs and bars. In this ongoing legal battle, April bar is the next victim. It will be closed by May 19th.

Queen's Day 2010

Every year on the 30th of April the Dutch celebrate the birthday of their Queen Beatrix. On Queen's Day in Amsterdam up to one million visitors join the 750.000 locals in the world's largest street party. The entire city is filled with party people, from the Vondelpark to the Jordaan. Orange, the color and name of the Dutch royal family, will dominate the city.
